i'm at a loss from the point of view of the fire and mag in those pics.

it seems that the top of the fire has receded from the bottom of the empty mag.

are the dark areas actual stove size coal still in the lower mag ?

in watching the hopper in my stove, if there is still even a layer of nut just one piece deep in the bottom they are all just a black as the ace of spades and no visible fire is present inside the hopper.

i believe you are correct about the intentional flow in the upper chamber of your stove. the high convection transfer and flow out put support that too.
If your referring to the pics on page 5 KC, then no. That was like the first light up and I poured coal in through the mag but only in stages until the pot was full. Then I filled the mag and took the pics.

Does that answer the question?

I really value the input fellas!

I've been exploring / poking at the innards of my mag. No visible fire along the inner edge of mag, but following the angle of coal from mag, there is glowing coal in the very center of mag, about one stone of pea high.

Hmmmm.

You got your ears on?!?!?!

It is hard to look at phone to see in stove while trying to push coal out of the way without dropping more in the way.

Spoke to Big Dog about a winter stove warning, said he will stop by later.

It’s been warm this winter Joe so it’s hard to judge but I don’t think it could all out heat like the C40. But I hesitate to wind it up due to the wooden mantle, so I’m really clueless!!! This summer I’m gonna do either a marble one (craigslist), stone or precast concrete.....
Is there a way to temporarily install a tin deflector above your insert, to protect the mantel from the heat? Then when the stove is off, you can remove the deflector, and keep your existing decorative mantel. No fuss, no mess, no additional project or expenses.

For you Artie...

The mag is half full. Picture was taken right before I emptied ash, shook and loaded it, I won’t touch it until tomorrow around noon.

Barrel temp gauge says 390*

Misunderstanding, a little fire at the core of magazine just above fire bed.

Stuff some foil in one of your mag vent holes and keep mpd open a little longer than normal, in case the stove tries to sneeze.

To be more clear I am digging with my poker with the mica door open. Pushing coal away from bottom of mag to see if there is fire in there. It would take more than one day for the mag to empty enough to look down from the cover plate.

My mag is 6 and a half round and 20 inch long with one vent hole. This last cold snap, was going thru about 16-18 pounds a day.

6:30 am Sunday morning. Black coal around o.d and i.d. of mag, but fire in center of mag.

Clinker doors 266, load doors 268, firepot 633 degrees, cyclinder 162, smoke pipe 139 4 feet up, draft -.01.
