Hi , Been looking for ages for another stove to replace my esse dragon in the orangery. The dragon is a Fantastic stove , ornate and gives out a good heat output. But since we have opened the back of the house up by knocking out a couple of walls the dragon is struggling when the temp dips below zero. As in my previous threads I love the American baseburner stoves but can't afford to ship to the uk with import duty , tax etc. So managed to snag a coalbrookdale Severn stove . It looked in the photos to be in good condition only needing cosmetic work , new glass / rope seals , etc . The riddling bars were in good condition and the seller assured me there were no cracks or breaks in the stove . So I pulled the trigger and bought it . It arrived yesterday on a pallet and I have put it in my brother in laws garage to refurbish it . The condition is amazing , really pleased . Blimey the cast iron is thick , and it weights 500lbs !!!! So a quality stove , when quality actually meant quality . It says it will heat a area 10,000cubic ft which will easily heat the back of the house . Few pics of it being delivered . Will post more when it's been refurbished, and installed . To be continued.

Congrats of a very pretty stove.

Wow, 10k cubic feet is a lot of floor space for that size stove. That's about 1200-1300 square feet of house. How many pounds of coal does it hold?

I hope your stove ratings are not like ours on this side of the pond. Seems they are rated with the stove pushed to max, when realistically the day-today ratings should be closer to half what the manufacture says.

It's rated at 15kw , takes a full load of 60lb of coal , or 40lb of logs . Largest log size 18". According to my maths 10,000cubic feet equate to a area 50'x20' x10' in height .so should be nice and toasty ha ha .

The size looks misleading. 60 lbs of coal is alot. That's equal to the firepots of really large American base heaters.

Would love to see pix of the innards.

Does it have a coal magazine or hopper ?

Hi, Took all the information from the original manufacturers Manuel, will take photos on Sunday when I'm off work . Stove is about 35 years old , and no it doesn't have a hopper . According to the manual it will run 24hrs on a full load of coal or wood so I will burn 60lbs of coal over 24hrs 😃. Will find out when I finish refurbishing it an get it installed 👍.

Hi Again , Must have had a senior citizen moment , the information about the coal and wood is how much it burns over 24hrs , not how much the firepot holds 🤔

Hi Wal, very nice stove and seems in good condition too. Looks like a classique/chique house front doors.
Does it have longer legs or does it stand so close from the floor?

surely 60#'s in 24 hours is running at full capacity. you should be able to do better than that unless it takes that kind of push to heat the area ?

It has to be -20* F for days for me to use 60# in 24 hours and that isn't even wide open for my stove.

but, everything is different.

Hi , Yes it is close to the floor , the doors are supposed to represent the arches of a bridge ( over the river Severn where the first cast iron bridge in the world was made) by this company coalbrookdale which manufactured this stove . Hence the name of the stove Severn, And yes I am sure 60lbs of coal is a lot over 24hrs so hoping that I can run it more economically when it is installed, or it's going to be a dear do to have it on ha ha .

Ok, 60 lbs. in 24 hours. I wondered how 60 lbs would fit in there all at one time. :o

My GW #6 Base Heater will go through that much when temps are around freezing. Near zero and below, more like 80 lbs. in 24 hrs..

Looking forward to more pix and a report on how well it does.

Hi , Apologies for taking so long to update about the stove , but work has been busy , and my wife and I have returned from Florida on holiday. Whilst back at work my wife contacted some friends who managed to get the stove from my brother in laws garage into our house and fitted it to our exsisting flu. Thought you might like to see the stove up and running . I’m very pleased . Take a look at the photos and tell me what you think . Will be able to access it’s performance when winter arrives . It had been running for around 45min when I got home last night . Wal

Hi Thanks for the kind comments, it’s rated at 15kw ( 50,000btu) according to the Manuel it will heat a area 10,000 cubic ft, so should be ok when winter arrives and the temp dips below 0.
