This is my 2nd Buckwalter stove. The 1st was the basically the same I installed it in the 70s. By 1980 I found another but classier up grade called the Canopy Fair. I used ti use it regularly but once I made the Van Wert Stocker and 22 radiators more efficient I found I did not need to use it. It can be fired up quickly but has not been lit in over 25 years. It was made around 1920 and never restored. I did reline the fire box many years ago though. I do polish the nickel about every 2 years.

Beautiful range in a beautiful setting. Love the matching enamel ware, too.
That sure would be getting a lot of use in our house !!!!
FYI. That pull handle just above the oven door is what many call the "oven damper". Some ranges had the handle there on the front, others it was at the back of the cook top on either side of the pipe collar. They all had the same purpose.
If you like, fire that baby up and come join in the "Cookin' With Coal" threads. I'm sure there are others who'd love to hear about your experiences with it.

Tkx Paul but since "the wife" does 100% of the cooking she prefers the electric stove and the 2 radar ranges. She too was from NE PA Scranton and grew up with one if there home. as a kid in the late 40s to appox 1950 they had NO indoor plumbing in Scranton! My ex used to use it alot but it was hard to control for her. It has a water jacket but it was burnt out and since I have unlimited DHW from my huge boiler I never replaced it when I relined the fire box. I will look your cookin with coal site though as it sounds like fun! Tkx BTW I hand chipped out the concrete floor and floated all those blue and white tiles into a one pour and tile system. 40+ years ago. The hood was always there built by the wagon co that built the house. It was painted and stripped it. and added hand made copper clips for the cast iron pots.

Wait for the wife to use it ? Not here.
After Melissa bought me our coal range I started learning to cook just so I could get in on the fun. Now, it's kind of a race to see who gets to do the cooking. If we had a stove that pretty, I think she'd duct tape me to a kitchen chair just so she could use it all the time.
