but I love this feature. Humidifier and potpourri. The smell drew couples from 500 miles away.

I let the G116 burn out about a week ago and switched back over to the C40. The last time I tended it was Friday morning. Forecast shows a warm week so it’s been on a low idle since. A little chill this morning so I opened up the stove a bit. After 72+ hours it bounced right back with a good amount of fuel still left. You can’t ask for much more!

That's an amazingly long run - congrats !!!!
Subject to change without notice. Forecast for warming here this week, too,...... until this morning.
Rains and wild thunder storms blew through last night. Still rained this morning as temps dropped over 20F in the last few hours. Syracuse weather radar shows snow in western NY headed this way. Get ready to crank up the heat again.

Wow ! Congrats.
Yeah, I think you may hold the record. I don't remember hearing of anyone coming close to that.

I broke down the C40 today. I plan on getting it blasted and rebuilding it from the ground up. It’s amazing how much ash collects on the rear of the base between the fire pot and outer barrel. I remember reading Scotts thread about this being an issue. This is actually where the base originally cracked, and my G109 cracked in the same exact spot. Hard spot to get to for cleaning. Solution...rebuild the stove every few years!!! Only 2 minor issues, not too bad. Cracked base by the rear grate support and the ears on the fire pot are broken. The lower ear was originally missing but the upper ear snapped off when I broke down the stove. I have no idea how long it’s been in service since the last rebuild. Scott was using it for years and I ran it for a season. Barrel and rear pipe are still in great shape. Just have to get the two spots repaired and I’ll be good for a while. I’ll get the base crack repaired by a professional, but the pot bracket I can handle. I plan on replicating the broken brackets with steel. Just thought I would share.

Looking good Tommy
I’ve seen 5 Crawford 40’s apart and all of them were cracked in that exact spot. My .02 is that is because of the oval barrel leads to that ash build up causing the casting to get really hot there. Not much gas flow there to carry the heat away. My Crawford 2 was cracked there also.
I’m always amazed at how thin the firepot casting is. It’s like it’s only job is to hold the refractory together
The fire pot tabs always break on disassembly too. Mines at Skips getting a couple new tabs welded on.

Yes....I noticed the fire pot casting is really thin as well. I assume with a good solid refractory it should be fine. Hell, this one is original, 100+ years old and is still fine despite the tabs breaking. I can say after breaking this stove down that the rest of the castings are heavy duty. Not as ornate as the Glenwood's I’ve had, but much thicker!
