I was told this piece of cast iron was used on a coal magazine stove and I don’t know what that is but from 1880 and used to separate hot coals from ash?? Any help or info is greatly appreciated and if this is the wrong place to ask I apologize!

welcome CIV,

it's more likely a drop-open type loading door that double as a chute when in the open position. Some stoves and kitchen ranges had a similar loading door to help pour fresh coal into the firebox.
