I was putting insulation in the summer kitchen roof far end...over the range. Had cleaned it out so two lids and the I and the lid lifter were stacked on top of the range. I dropped the staple gun from up fifteen feet or whatever and it fell right onto the range.
I could hardly look but Thank God the gun hit the stacked things and threw the lid lifter clear of the stove. Took me a minute to find the small piece. Feel bad because a neighbour who was raised on these stoves gave it to me from the farm but I was so relieved it didn't break an importantimportant part of the stove top. Ja. Happy Thanks Giving in Canada this weekend. Forgot you are a different time.

Sorry to hear that. It can be welded. Or, other lid lifters are common on eBay.
Meanwhile, have a Happy Canada Day !

Yeah, I know what you mean. We'd be very upset if something happened to stove when we need it.
And because it is so important to our needs and life style, I try to keep spares of the things that might get abused in use, such as grate bars, top plates, and tools needed to operate the range.

A good idea. I am not that organized yet but spares would be a safety.
The Modern Oak is going tonight because Im reinforcing the revolting brick and cement job in the range. Never found poundable liner but one day....
Fierce winds here. We have had three tornados this year where I don't think there have been as many in 25 years. I was going to say the whirly has been spinning. Better go adjust the flashing tomorrow. We are getting into the zeroes now. Still need some plants out of the ground for winter.....

Have done lots of chores days off and the new lid lifter came in post it is different than the other has coil around handle and edges on side at lift end. No picture, too tired. Only in Ottawa didn't have to send far. Zero here feels like twenty below(Celsius) and seven below last night. Only running range insulation makes a difference.

Good find !
With loading coal and tossing any paper items into the firebox, such as paper towels and tissues, we use the round cover handle a lot.
Left on the mantel shelf it tends to get too hot, so we leave it stuck into one of the round covers in the middle or the right end where it's easy to grab quickly. As long as it's not left sticking up in the round covers over the firebox, the coiled wire handles don't get hot like the solid cast iron ones of the type often found with parlor stoves.

That's it! The one near he kettle. I find the angle different but not necessarily more difficult than the longer straighter one that I'll get welded sometime, that I find very easy to use.
I've been using a wrench and a wooden wire brush that sizzled once when I left the air open too long and the lids were hot.
Me too, I leave it in the far right front. When Im using a real one. The range is so easy compared to the Modern Oak. The range was so well designed, easy and manageable. But when it gets cold I'll run the M.D. too.
This whole town is wrapping their houses and insulating on a huge scale. I'm guessing the farmers know but God will have the last word and I'm still praying for a winter hovering around freezing...or above. But I'm almost ready too for the winter we have been warned of.

Melissa likes the loop handle lifter better because I fits her small hands.

Ah. I have large hands so maybe that's why I find it a little awkward. It's good though, and lifts lids the other was too blunt to lift. Much easier that the wrench and odd tools.

Oh and we're having a blizzard and again bitter cold. Damp cold. Left Modern Oak going this morning and its comfortable for the night if I let it go out and keep the range going. Its about thirty two I guess and looks like three inches of snow

Hi Jen, is this your 1st snow fall of the season? Hope it's not an indication of the up-coming winter. Where I am in Ct., we had a miserably wet late summer/fall, and I'm wondering if it'll continue into the winter. Better get my snow removal equipment ready. Haven't even taken care of falling leaves yet.
Guess you'll be firing the Tiger soon? Got your coal supply for the winter?
