I remember that Carol did such a wonderful job of cooking with her Fairmount that I wanted to go back for another look. So here's a link to the first post I started to upload her pictures. She posted more pix after that once she learned how.

From page 42 of the Cookin' With Coal thread.

That's a nice thread. The Fairmount is beautiful I saw one for sale once. Beautiful pics of the food too. Inspiring.

I like the log walls too. At least it looks like logs but my eyes sometimes are wrong. The cooking looks great...is her Facebook page personal or a cooking with coal page?

Carol's home is a real log cabin. The family is into living off their land and being as self sustaining in many ways.

Yes, her cooking skills are very good. And if her cast iron cookware collection gets any bigger, it might effect the Earth's magnetic field. :D

Plus, the family is (was?) active in Civil War reenactments.

I haven't been to her FB page is a few years, but there was lots of pictures on it back when I last looked.

That's terrific. It's kind of a dream for later. I looked through some log home books a few years ago. The r factor is interesting I think it said it is even better in bitterly cold weather.
Practicing with a range will help and best not to leave all the learning until later because I know I want to be closer to a coal source. And my children are spreading themselves out all over Canada.
I started the range yesterday. We are getting extremes from 34 Celsius to 8 which is cold enough. I'd be fine with a cold summer.

 I've heard the geese three days running and night temperatures are pretty cool. Thank God the days are gone when I got depressed in winter; I can't WAIT to fire up the range

Won't be much more of this...although it has been very hot and I suppose could last into beginning November.

I have just been told that the Almanac says a cold and brutal winter. I'd like to get the coal in before the snow comes.

Yeah. I need to maybe double up my insulation.
Sunny, I went out without a sunhat one day and got a massive headache. They do keep the heat out. Everyone got hot weather? I saw golf in Saskatchewan on tele and they were all wearing jackets and pants!!!

I guess it is good for that. Farmers here say it was too dry but I'm sure they are fine. Still...hot weather for working outside.
