There it is. I started at page one but read it last year so went February or so last year.
I like it for the stove too bit it's a nice family photo. It reminds me of black and whites from when my older brother's and sisters were young. I found the house terribly quiet when it was just me and my younger brother left.
Yup, that's Melissa sitting on her oldest brother's lap, with her two other brothers and sister. An early 1960's Christmas picture her Dad took. She has many fond memories of time spent around that range. The constant warmth and spending time with her mother, learning to cook.

I know what you mean about the house seeming so empty as siblings go off on their own. She was the youngest and last of her siblings to live there. It was sad seeing the stove for the last time, sitting in an empty house the day I took this picture, when her Dad was selling the place.

All the fond memories of times like that picture I think is why she bought the Glenwood for me. And why she'd rather cook on that than any other type of stove.

Hopefully your kids will get to have the same warm memories. ;)

Paul

I hope so. I think so. What a stove! A real work of art. So beautiful. Lace edged in iron.
My youngest son misses the woodstoves because he could see the fire through the glass and when they were young they went out of the bath to a sit by the fire. I'm hoping he'll find the range more of a draw because of the food and hot drinks. Ya know what they say, When there's baking in the kitchen there's warmth in the home.

Maybe the trick of putting mica in the secondary damper openings will be enough for your son ? Kinda like using binoculars instead of a picture window. :D

You can take some tips from Lee's thread. He just put a glass door on his furnace. You could be the 1st with a range with a picture window. Then you'ld need a cot in the kitchen, cause you'll never want to go to bed. :)

Great Idea Joe, ........ except for one small detail......... there's no room to put a firebox picture window in a coal range. The loading door isn't used - it's the front end of the firebox and it gets blocked off by firebrick for coal use.

Just joking, I'm sure I'll have to put the woodstoves somewhere at some point. I couldn't modify this old girl though. Already attached to it.
I guess Owen would like the open hearth coal fires in the U.K. But not like a woodbine so maybe not. He came down this morning and spread his hands at the Glenwood, even though it was hot enough to bake brains upstairs. Must put a door at the top of the stairs soon.

Oh yes! The 116, picking up the old Auntie Friday I think. It was freezing yesterday and frost on the roof this morning thick. But we are to have 30 degrees Friday, which is 86 Fahrenheit, if the forecast can be believed.
No cold weather there yet?!!!
And my eldest 3 are in Vancouver where they are heading into the monsoon season, apparently.
I can't wait to get this range going. But I guess itbwill take me while to convert it.
The previous owner sounds so sweet. Was with his wife 46 years. Sigh. So sad. She must be recently gone.

Hmmm. I don't know. I feel that some bad teen is selling their Grandma's stove on Craigslist. Not like eBay. I hope there Is a stove for sale at all. Odd.

Are you still going tomorrow ? Have you ever talked to this seller on the phone ?

Has something happened to make you suspect this sale ? If so, like Joe's alluding too, ask for more pictures, such as of the condition of the grates. Pictures that your certain are not already on the internet. If it's a scam the scammer may not be able to have access to the stove to get those additional pictures.

And if your not comfortable with this deal, don't take the risk, there's plenty of other ranges out there ..... even some with water reservoirs. ;)

Good luck with it Jen. If nothing more, it'll be an interesting story, no matter how it turns out. :)
