I didn't add coal yesterday and when I got home today at 6:45 pm it was idling at 198 top of the barrel, 268 bottom of barrel and 160 base chamber with a layer of unburnt coal on top. Talk about sipping coal so I guess I'll throw some black rocks in and see if it comes back.

Careful Mike, a "sipping" stove like that could make a person get forgetful. You might have to get one of those phones with the calendar appointment reminder thingy

Nice numbers Mike....just know that because the pot is so well insulated and the transfer out of the barrel so good, that it’s easy to get greedy on warm days and get it so low for so long you actually lose draft

You’ll know too because your CO alarm will go off but the lower barrel temp will still show an active coal bed. This happened to me with the Stewart on a really warm day in November IIRC

Mine has that window, and I can tell when its ashing up, cause it's all grey and dark, but most of the time the top window will still be glowing orange. So how many hours was the stove running W/O tending? And how long did it take to get it cleaned out, re-fueled, and up to operating temp?

joeq it was approx. 42 hrs on around 30 lbs of coal. I shook it and cleared ash through the klinker door and then I let the fire rev up. I added approx 10 lbs and the blues were swirling in about 20 minutes. I just added another 20 lbs and it's loaded to the bottom of the load door and crackling. back with more.

I hear yah! One reason I'm hesitant to install a baro. Expecting stormy weather tomorrow so draft should be exceptional

This is after a little more than an hour with just about 20 shakes of the grate and a little klinker door poking, no flossing the grates tonight. That will give me something to do tomorrow while I watch the snow fly.

She did great, I just shook it down a little and added 10lbs...I keep puttin' off gettin' down on my knees to floss the grates. I think I'm trying to train her to do it herself.

As long as I get a half pan of ashes and the next batch catches why fix it if it ain't broke? right

So Mikey, if she's noting eating a lot right now, what are your OATs. You guts ta be near single digits, seeing you're up there towards the North pole. I figured you have penguins fetching them coal bags for ya. Mine eats a bag a day, and we're barely 20s at nite and 40°, day time.

18* right now joeq, "Kegs" and "northernmainecoal", and "johnjoseph" are closer to the N pole, I'm down central Maine. Those are nuns you see with the bags, Penguins are S pole

I've watched a couple National Geographic shows about the Emperor Penguins. They live in Antarctica (south pole) and are quite an amazing bird. They don't seem to mind being visited either lol.

I think Burgess Meredith was a penguin, but don't believe he was from the south.
