A few years back I sprayed a few accents on an oak stove with high temp silver and then applied a coat of stove polish. The nice thing is, with a damp cloth you can either bring out a slight hint of the underlying paint or make it really stand out. There are quite a few high temp colors available and I'm thinking about trying a dark metallic gray on the next one followed by stove polish.

I wish they made stove polish in different colors, I'll bet a colored polish and paint combination would look great on a kitchen stove.

I couldn't find a cove moulding to match the faux copper ceiling so I used the same technique. Sprayed the moulding with copper colored paint, added a little water to an almost empty jar of stove polish and brushed it on. There is just enough oil in the stove polish that once it's diluted with water it beads up and drys blotchy. Buffed it with a shoe shine brush and gave it a coat of clear. I think you have your last comment reversed........ It would be a shame to let it sit there without a fire in its belly. And it will be back in action this fall.

The double heater pipe is going to connect into my plenum with a series of dampers and circulated throughout the house using the stoker blower motor.

When its time for the stoker to take over, the dampers will be switched over and the flow reversed using the double heater as the room register.

When it's done, I'll put it to the vote here. The one side I will only let a little bit show and the other side I'll take off more.

Yep, that's it 3 coats black, 1 coat copper on the raised scrolled areas and a coat of stove polish. Once the polish is dry, buffed with a shoe shine brush.

Take an old piece of tee shirt soak it in water, wring it out good. Wrap it around your hand and just use the tip of your finger to wipe the polish off. Do a small area at a time and keep moving your finger to a clean spot on the rag.

It takes less than a half hour to do the whole stove. You can experiment using something like an old fancy glass bowl, kids toy, flowerpot or anything with a raised pattern.
Spray it with just about any kind and color paint, then stove polish it. It's really easy to get a crisp line on the numbers and letters with just the cloth and your finger. Try it !

Getting closer, I finished up plating the finial this afternoon. If this cool weather hangs on for another few weeks, I may get to fire it up before winter.

This retirement thing isn't what I expected. I think I had more free time when I was working 7 days a week. In any case, that actually was my original plan.

Thanks Arthur, unfortunately I won't get back home until next week, and I really need the temps to fall at least down into the 80's to pick up any draft.

I was going to wait until I finished the floor to install the stove but at the speed this summer past by, I didn't want to miss the first opportunity should this warm weather break.

Tucked away somewhere in the shop is the original swing cover plate for the magazine.
Rather than waste time searching for it with the cool weather approaching, I welded one up. Just in case the original stays hidden I added the lift rod so it raises up with the swing top.

Flue is connected to the chimney and the double heater pipe needs one more section of pipe and an elbow to connect to the upstairs ductwork.

Buffed out the stove polish to expose the copper accents, and blackened the recessed portions of the nickel.

It was 87* here today, so I better hold off lighting her.

Thanks Tom, I can move it out if needed, but since it will be used primarily in the shoulder months and in base burner mode, I don't expect flue temperatures to be very high.

The wall is concrete block and faced with stucco cement. Plans are to monitor and track the surrounding temps, so time will tell if I have to slide it out a bit.

Yes my friend, its come a long way since you saw it last. It seems like just yesterday we stood around a pile of parts calculating the area of the base chamber.


Do you and Lorna plan to come out for this year's Meet and Greet ? If so, we would enjoy the company, and you can see it in action .
