Today, we got the Herald hooked up to the chimney, and started cleaning the nickel plating. I think we'll be able to save it. We're ready for the cold weather, when it arrives. Here's a pic of the Herald.
Cheers

Love the look, and the tiny white lamp mounted to the bonnet will come in handy when loading. ( :D )

Wilson,
I had an extra 5" to 6" adapter for the Jotul #118. (5"-smooth end, 6"-crimped) I used 5/8" fiber gasket flattened to seal the joint at the back pipe. It's real tight press, but I still need to drill and secure the adapter to the back pipe flange. The remaining pipe joints are secure. I installed 2 mpd's-one in the top elbow just before the thimble, and one about 6" out from the back pipe.
The nickel is cleaning up nicely. I used ammonia and water(2 hour soaking). I did a search on Brillo. It has soap and jewelers rouge embedded in the pad. Lillian will get some for the next round of cleaning.
No fire in the pot yet, but we're ready!
Cheers

Nice set up, DF.

You've more patience than I. Hot weather or not, I'd have fired it up as soon as it was hooked up ! :D

Wilson,
No fire yet, but I have used an extra blanket the last two nights. I soaked the nickel for 24 hours in Brillo pads/warm water. Yesterday Lillian and my daughter, with the two grandkids, went to Boston to walk the 'Freedom Trail'. I stayed home cleaning nickel. I mounted a 4" round wire wheel that you use in a 3/8 chuck hand drill to my drill press. It did a real nice job of bringing the luster back. I'll get a couple pics, after the family goes back to Florida.
That Herald you're restoring, Wilson, is looking good. Keep posting progress pics. We love 'eye candy'! If you wish, keep them in this thread. It has your name on it, and I have the 'twin Herald' in New Hampshire.
P.S.: Please send me an ashpan, when they come in. Thank you.
Cheers
