I visited with Emory and Brandon today and came home with this Crawford No. 2

I also acquired a basket case Glenwood 111, so after I restore it this summer, I can apply for full benefits & privileges of the Glenwood Base Burner Society!

These two gentlemen are top shelf!

Emory sold four stoves just while I was there for 3 &1/2 hours this afternoon.

This stove has its original perfect fire bricks, just needs a new back pipe with a relocated exhaust flange, some touch up paint and maybe new mica......I can't wait to hook it up and see how she runs.

Glad you got a chance to stop and see the Pineos. I spoke with Emery yesterday myself, to tell him how happy we are with our Hub Heater he restored for us. They're true artists - and great guys.

I'm curious - I guess you bought the Crawford from Emery as an unrestored original? I didn't know they sold stoves that way. Can you share what you paid for it?

Emery's starting my No. 3 now - to be completed this Spring (hopefully). Can't wait to get it!!

I also have a No. 2 in storage. It's missing all the nickel trim, except the dome and finial. It's also missing the top lift lid. The grate is perfect, fire brick is very good, but the suspended fire pot was broken and only a small piece remained. I guess Emery has ones to cast from, from what he's told me. But, the removable ash pit lid is mint, which is critical. The one with my No. 3 is not in such great shape, but Brandon feels he can deal with it.

Crawford base heaters are fairly rare - I'm very glad you found one and I have found two.

Sweet, congrats on your Crawford. While Crawfords are harder to come by...there are, according to Emery, thousands of these old stoves all over the place in the Northeast. It was shocking when he told me how many stoves were produced. It came up because he was mentioning the rediculous prices his competitors charge for stoves. He says the problem is they think its a rare art piece instead of a coal stove that was mass produced. Un-restored stoves are worth much less than most people think and he says that he passes on 3/4 of the stoves offered to them because the seller is dilussional as to the price. The restoration along with the time in to restore it raises the price, and if someone can't provide complete teardown pictures along with the rebuild, how would anyone know if it was done right. Emery and Brandon do the job, do it right, make good money on the stoves (not price jack like a lot of the others), and stand behind their work.

With my very limited knowledge of these, I would say its a 7.5 - 8 out of a 10.

There are definitely tons of run of the mill old stoves lurking out there and while there are LOTS of Crawford ranges that have survived, I'm not convinced there are that many Crawford base heaters.

Has anyone ever seen an original ad or catalog page for these base heaters?

Went back to the "Hospital" today to pick up the Glenwood....upon closer inspection it was decided to have Emery and Brandon go through it top to bottom so I'll have peace of mind next winter.

The bits for Mrs Crawford arrived today so I'm hoping to put her to work soon, maybe next weekend.

I also scored this unbroken upper grate for her while nosing about.

Later I put together my adapter/MPD assembly together for her.

Too funny!

Today I made a patch to cover the lower exh port hole. Then I put Mrs Crawford on her legs and installed the exh flange in the correct location to meet the existing chimney pipe. Tomorrow she will get some quick dress up rattle can black and it's off we go to coal nirvana.

Over the summer she be put in dry dock for a new back pipe so I don't have to see the scab patch, and a proper paint job.

Can't wait.

What's the outside and inside diameter of that? And can you get another one for me and my Our Glenwood 111? It's the same style as your Crawford.
