Josh I always say I work to live not live to work, don't get me wrong I do love my job but I love my personal free time a lot more . I know exactly what your talking about and I often wonder if life passes by those workaholics and they ever have regrets later in life or did they just miss it altogether ?

I plan to be back working on the hearth starting Thursday, have a few errands to run tomorrow and then I'm done with those things and its free time !

Missed it by one box of tile and some daylight , I will try and get the rest of the tiles set in the am before the snow they are calling for hits.

The windows have been trimmed in metal coil stock with a gap of 2.5" and stuffed with insulation between the original trim and the coil stock.
My beautiful wife bought me a piece of coal for Christmas that just turned 9 weeks old today ! Just so happens he was born on our Anniversary. He is good when he is sleeping .

I lost my last Boxer after 10 years of faithful companionship about 7 months ago, I just hope this one is half the pooch he was.

I went this am and grabbed some more tile and finished up the top and bottom rows today, it took longer than I expected because my corners kept breaking away, plus I was cutting outside with snow falling which made for a miserable wet job. Maybe some tile guys can clue me in as to why the tile kept breaking corners but I finally got them all cut and stuck ! I had plenty of water in the saw and thought I was keeping the tile square, most of the breaks happened on the left side of the cut but not all.

Tomorrow I can look forward to the grout , I am not really feeling that part of it but once it's done I can seal it and move on to the trim and chimney pipe .

You picked a good color of tile and it looks like you are doing a professional job. The only other thing I might suggest is that you match the window color with the tile so they don't stick out and detract from the overall appearance. Are you thinking of any sort of window treatment there? I wonder what you could do with the stove being right there too.

I am open for ideas on the window treatments, the only thing I have in mind so far is a set of metal mini-blinds being mounted in the recess of the trim and close to the glass ? Now if I could find someone to airbrush the tile pattern on those in the closed position that may be interesting (and probably costly).

Okay, this is what I've thought of right off the top of my head. Paint the window sash, mullions and trim to match the tile. Pick one of the color variations in the tile to match. I suggest one of the darker colors. Get some copper metallic blinds, or a dark bronze color. That would pull everything together and make a stunning and tasteful stage worthy of the Glenwood. The black and nickel of the stove will contrast with the other colors behind it and the stove will just pop out, yet it will all go together. It will look Turn Of The Century and Modern at the same time.

Your only other option is fireproof fabrics like fiberglass welding blankets haha

That is a Great idea with the colors, the wife likes your choices as well so it looks like the light at the end of the tunnel just got a little dimmer for now . I will see what I can find locally for the bronze or copper colored blinds and if I can't find it there I should be able to find it on line, but I may have to go with white on the interim. The paint color should be an easy find locally though.

What about the trim in front of the hearth, I was planning to continue the white 5 1/4" board used on the base throughout to wrap the front and sides ? I actually have these items on hand and will start them soon, but I need to get the walls grouted and sealed today if possible.
