I will have to get a photo or 2 ,what happened is over this weekend while out walking my dog a fella that lives down the road from ,Noticed I had a coal bin and figured I heated with coal then proceeded to tell me about this brand new old palor stove still in is origanal crate in his basement that was there when he bought the house , and asked if I would like to have it , soo I took a look sure enough brand new parlor stove from the paperwork is was dated from the 1940s,found that to be odd ,because I thought by the end of the 1920s parlor stoves fell by the weyside, but what do I know, anyhow will get down ther a get a few pictures of it ,if he lets me uncrate it so I can get some good shot ,its of cylinder design and looks as though it top loads from what I saw of , not a fancy stove more in the line of the old hotblast style .color of stove is a adobe like color.

New stove for free? Go get it. If it has shaker grates it should burn coal fine.

Just get it before the man changes his mind.

You are right that these stoves started to go out of style in the late 1920s,but there was still a market, especially in rural areas. Then the government in the 1940s recommended burning coal to save oil for the war effort. Even in the 1960s there were still quite a few coal companies making deliveries. As an oil burner man I and others like me did many conversions to oil.

That is a stove designed to heat a chicken coop or a dairy barn I think. I don't think that was intended for use in the home but I don't see anything wrong with using it if you want to. It certainly looks heavy duty.

Interesting.
In the third photo, what is that piece of hardware in the stove with wire tied to it?
The check damper near the flue exit looks like it's in the wrong position. It should fit in place to cover that rectangle shaped hole near the flue exit. The rod should be pointed the opposite direction so you can open/close the damper. Maybe that's the way it was shipped.?
It looks like there could be some kind of attachment that could be added to the top of the stove instead of just the lid...maybe a magazine for holding coal?
Could you photo/scan and post the instructions so we could read them :)
