I actually throw a small piece in now and then for the added color.
In the winter we would throw a few handfuls of rock salt on the tractor trailer floors to help keep the wet coal from freezing and sticking on long trips.
Rock salt residue on the coal also adds a little color to the fire.

Here’s a pic for you....
My 50-something Chappee’s been hot for less than 10 hours now. Here’s what ‘she’ looks like right now.
Wife Susan walked in the door at 5:00pm and right away noticed the whole house was warm! A warm 75f beats a cold 65f all to hell!
We are shedding ‘winter indoor’ clothing and very much enjoying the short sleeve weather in here.
(Oh?....it’s 30 and snowing outside? Sorry, didn’t notice)
