The Care and Feeding of a Warm Morning Stove

Zip, I have been buying coal off of a guy in Sulfer, KY for about 4 years....it is really good coal but his prices have gone up to 200/ton...
I just went to a mine this weekend in Jasper, IN and bought a ton from them....it isn't as good but the price was about 50 a ton....I am probably burning about 30 percent more, but for that price it's a no brainer. If you want directions just drop me a line at [email protected] and I will pass on the info. It's about a 2 1/2 hour drive for me one way, but its worth the savings.

No damper installed yet, but I will!!! In the meantime during the coldest wether I re-constructed my plenum to cover the pipes and stove. The basement temps are down about 20 degrees since most of it goes into the ductwork.

Temps have been frigid overnight. We will stay above freezing tonight and the next week or so, hopefully. But, now my coal pile has dwindled to a 3 or 4 day supply. My dealer has been out of coal and does not know when he can get another load. The waiting list is pretty long so who knows if I'll get another load soon? The Warm Morning is fed about 30 # a day now but it's keeping the floors warm. A little. The fabulously expensive LPG furnace has been running with the thermostat set to 64 day/58 nite. Brrrrrrrrrr!!!!

Anyone int I have 2 warm morning stoves I use and like them both very much,one is the model 460 and the other is the 528E,i bought them
both used about 15 years ago very cheaply and I have all the paperwork for the 528E including the org brochure on the stoves,all there
coal stoves are on this one brochure,plus a sep one for operation which in my opinion all operate the same way,just some are fancier
than others,i have the bill of sale too,which in 1983 here in northeast PA this stove sold for $422.00. thx

Does the brochure have the older models or just the models around 1983?

fireguy, since I have the model 523 it would very helpful to have the paper work scanned and posted. Let us know if we can help.

My dealer got a delivery from the mines and I was able to pick up another load yesterday, in the rain. Temps have moderated and we are staying warm now.

The stoves listed in this brochure I have are models 400,460,428E,628E,528E,414,617,523R,i will get my wife to help me for you
guys that want to have a copy of this brochure,its a color brochure and its like new,guy gave me all the paperwork when I bought
the used 528e from him for a $100,the operation instructions are on a sep piece of paper and as I say I think this pretty much
shows operation of all there stoves,the guy with the 400 it shows here that it was $700 when my was bought new.

WOW! Thanks a bunch Fireguy. I know this will be a huge blessing to me and all of the other Warm Morning stove owners here on the forum!

All of you guys int in a copy of the paperwork I have,lets do this,i don't have a scanner,email me at [email protected] and we will go
from there if that sounds ok with you,i will send you what I have as soon as I figure out the best poss way for you to have it.I didn't
realize there were so many of you out burning these stoves,hard to believe they went out of business.

Locke Stove Company was known throughout the South. When I was a child it seemed that every other house had a Warm Morning Stove. I wonder what happened to the tooling and molds for these stoves. If somebody started making them again, or a similar type stove I'm sure they would sell. Especially in areas where Anthracite is not readily available.

Wow!!! we are about to be blessed with something many of us have longed for since we started trying to figure out how to burn bituminous or anthracite coal in these Warm Morning stoves. I know we have arrived at many good solutions and ideas on how to burn coal in these stoves but I think there could be something in these brochures/paperwork that gives more clues.

Hope everyone is staying warm......we are!!!!

Hello Everyone,
I have had a warm morning model 414a stove for a numbers of years, but always in storage. It is in excelent condition except for one corner brick broken in half vertically. Seeing as how I do not use this, a friend wants to buy it for use. I have no idea how much something like this would go for. I don't want to take too much from him, but on the other hand don't want to part with something that could be worth some amount. Information seems to be at a minimium on the net except for this forum. Any ideas out there?

We have just purchased a Warm Morning model 460 stove, would also appreciate any manuals. Any directions where parts are available would also be a help. Have not fired yet- presently burning coal in my wood stove.
