Beyond that, regulating the heat output of the furnace will be your challenge.

Do the shaker grates function properly?

Yes they seem to work fine. I just need to get a wire brush and clean the inside to look for cracks. Also I'll have to look up a thermal snap switch.

Ok great.. The simplest thing to do would be to mount a thermal snap switch on top of the furnace in series with the blowers.

Do you have experience wiring stuff?

I have a little electrical experience. I can follow a wiring diagram.

Ok.. the snap switch will save you some money on your electric bill since the blowers will only run when the furnace is hot enough to close the switch. Those blowers are electric piggies.

So how does the snap switch attach to the heater? I looked them up.

Just use self tapping screws to go down thru the air jacket of the furnace. I would recommend this one. Turns on at 120, turns off at 110.

Or you could use one that runs slightly cooler which will run the fans more, like for ex, on at 110 and off at 95. If I recall correctly, this is what I used. It's been a while lol

Is there anyway to clean inside the air jacket?I also found something interesting. It appears the jacket has a convex dent that looks as if there was dust blowing out at some point. I looks concerning to me cause there shouldn't be any of that in there.

You should be able to remove the panels. They are held together quite simply with sheet metal screws.

I don't know how extensive you are willing to mod your stove for automation.. I installed an actuator that ran off of the living room thermostat. The actuator opened a valve for the primary combustion air which throttled the fire when the thermostat called for heat. I had great success with it and it held the house temp within 1 degree no matter the weather outside. We could explore that option later on if yer interested.

Yea, maybe. Kinda want to keep it simple for now. See the pic I posted above about the dent.

Sure, it could be dusty in there. But most duct work gets a dust layer in it also.

It wouldn't hurt to pull the panels off and look around.
