What are you doing for secondary air? Can you explain your firing process? I’ve got some somerset PA bit on hand to burn up.
Thanks!

Thanks for asking. The bit I have burns really well. I have no secondary air although I leave a corner of the coal pile burning and uncovered when reloading. This acts like a pilot light and helps to burn off the volatile gasses so I don’t get an explosion. I shake down and reload in the morning and once again in the evening. Sometimes it will fuse together and I’ll poke it a little with a bar.

What about air controls? Do you leave the ash door vents always open some to keep a continuous flow of air through the coal bed to avoid explosions?
