I ran a burn the other day but that was before I tightened things up a little.
See if I made a difference

I still have more I could do.
Hope I don't have to do a lot more.
My project is a little over budget
Even with a free stove

No pictures because Fred didn't bring the bathing beauties.
But, the old WM 617-A seems to keep it warm enough to work out there.
I still have a few more gaps to fill in and a door to build.
Just have a canvas covering that now.
It took about an hour or so to get the stove warm enough to start throwing heat.
It's a process but getting there

Just an update.
It held fire overnight and was easy to get going again.
If it holds 60#, then that's @ 1-5 gallon bucket of coal.
I was surprised there wasn't a lot of ashes.
And what was there was powdery

Once I get the building tightened up a little more, I think I'll be happy.
My coal consumption looks to go up.

Not sure what is going on.
I had an opportunity to build a fire today and be with it for most of the day.
Had trouble getting a good burn and the stove never got hot.
Could easily lay my hand on it.
I think I followed the instructions to a tee.
Right now it's been 8 or 9 hours since I lit and there's hardly any hot coals.
Just a fused mass.
I can (very carefully) poke through it.
From what I read, it's supposed to burn from the bottom and drop down.
It has dropped down 6"
Previously, when I lit fires and let them burn out there were only a few ashes left.
I suspect it will be the same with this time.
Was hoping to hold fire overnight and have it available tomorrow.
But, the lack of heat has me puzzled.
And concerned.
I think I have decent draw because there's lots of smoke from the chimney when I first light it.
When I close the drafts as the instruction tell me to do, it seems to almost go out.
Hoping it's just a learning curve but a short one.
Also, Merry Christmas

well you're not a novice coal heat user and you're using familiar fuel so there is probably just an overlooked tending issue.
that stove wants to operate in the -.02 / -.04 pressure differential range. if you don't have MPD's or a Baro to hold it down all the heat is going to vanish.
you can just keep putting fuel in it, but in this situation you will just be burning coal not doing any heating.
