Burning egg bituminous in a hand fired Hot Blast. Having a problem where it melts together into one big lump about 5 hrs into a burn after loading. It'll be hot but not put off good heat. I have to shove a poker under it to loosen it up. Then it burns hot as hell for another 6-8hrs when its time to load again. Any suggestions to get away from the mid burn maintenance?

I haven't found a way yet, but I will be interested in other peoples responses.

You can also search 'bridging' in the search box at top right. Will be lots of reading material.

switch to a coal with lower coke button. There's a few coals in your area that might work. Off the top of my head, an eastern KY lump coal would require NO maintenance as it has almost 0 coke button (1-9, 9 being the worst, less than 6 ok, less than 4 decent)

Clinker wise it has very few if any most of the time. Fortunately I have very little of that load left and I mixed it up with the 2800lbs of lump I recently brought from Thompson Brothers.

The Thompson Brothers is much better. I can load, leave air wide open for half hour, back the air down, and go back 12 hrs later and reload.
