Furnace Temps

i have a rutlage magnetic thermometer on ther front of my hotblast furnace. as far I have seen nobody around here uses or cares what temp there furnace is. do any of you guys have a thermometer on your coal funace?

if so, what do you try and keep it at? what is to hot, and what is complete meltdown? am I just to worried about the temp of the furnace? do most of you guys not consider it hot untill itd cherry red? lol

I've got a hot blast 1357, burning anthracite nut coal, running 350-400 over the feed door with magnetic thermometer, I would run no hotter than 600, but can heat my house in upstate NY at only 350-400
