...and I sure am glad to see some pictures of your Warm Morning stove. That particular model reminds me of the stove at the old feed mill when I was a kid, but more importantly it reminds of the old Warm Morning stove in my great aunt's home in eastern KY when I was a kid, though theirs was green in color and probably a 400 model if it's smaller. The house was probably about 1000sq.ft.

I'd love to find one of these stoves in usable and reasonably good condition or better. I've been looking for them on youtube and couldn't find a video of one. Glad I joined here...if nothing for the jolt of the good memory.
these are around, more than one would think. the show up here fairly often.

Still warming up...good thing is we are -13 today... cold yes but a heat wave compared to the last few days. -74 was the coldest temp recorded. -62 for my area... fortunately my property only saw -56 as the low...

CC no unfortunately not... those free give aways had requirements of building homes... many have not done so yet and are in jeopardy of losing their land. I just bought the place next to me. Looking at the place on the east side as well. Don't want all the land just the stuff that touches mine. :D

-13...-74

How do y'all move in temps like that? My joints have gotten so I can hardly move when it gets below 30F here...and I'm one hand less than 50yrs. young. I can hardly even enjoy hunting anymore.

Would love to see Alaska and go fishing and hunting. I used to think I could take the temps, but recent conversations with "Mr. Rhume Arther Itis" have talked me out of it.  Not happy about what he told me either.

Believe me it is no fun. You literally rethink your life choices in the winter time. The super cold is not really the problem it is the GRIND at -20 to -30 that gets you. Alaska Winters start in October and break up in the interior is usually around memorial day. Our GRIND started early NOV and lasted thru JAN. Feb has been much better with some days in the 20s but as I write this we are -24 right now. 30 more days and then we should be getting some relief as April is usually single digits and 20's. I love the interior summers but miss Anchorage winters.

Hello all-- hope spring is just around the corner for many of you... here NOT SO MUCH. the weatherman currently has an armed protective detail. He keeps forecasting mild temperatures yet each day it is -27 to -32. Needless to say we are all ready for winter to be over.

The last post on page 8 I mentioned refurbishing my WM this summer and just sitting her thinking of ways to do such. Seems all I do is work on the boiler, the WM and continue to look for other heating appliances. :D

I was thinking .. is it possible to build a burn chamber strictly out of firebrick much like a masonry fireplace and incorporate the cast grates and top of the WM. I am looking for a way to make a larger area to hold coal thus increasing my tending times. The WM with the rosemont is proven now and showed itself to be a workhorse just needed more coal to increase tending times. I am limited on metal working equipment and just looked at some masonry builds and primarily a wood stove project with metal top and doors and thought why this would not work for a coal stove.

Firebrick, refractory motor or pour mold refractory cement should work... Cinderblocks for the ash pan portion with clean out door and the top loading WM seems like it would work... this is just me spit balling here. Not sure what just brick would do to the heat output though. Of course all of this connected to the Rosemont... I am sold on that design.

Do a search on a thing called a Masonry Heater, they are generally for wood but I think the concept would be the same. I have only ever heard of them, I know nothing about them. >>> http://www.mha-net.org/

That is what I was thinking but something less elaborate. More like what is linked above just for coal. Or a redesign of the no tools firebrick rocket heater ... just thinking out loud on a to cold to be outside day.
