Where your stove located in relation to the thermostat? How insulated in your house? Windows?
How big of a house are you trying to heat? Do you have your Baro Damper Calibrated correctly? If installed.
First, what's your MIN and MAX settings at? You may have to bump feed rate up a bit. (my Hyfire is 8 and 46)
HLF will bump it up faster if you have a drafty house and wide temp swings. I think I have mine on 1. (big old house). But good insulation and windows.
Also, don't turn it up that far above the room temp. That is why it's at FR99, Because it's not satisfying the temp.
I would start with a few degrees at a time and check your burn rates and see if you can raise the max 1 or 2 points until you close to pushing hot coals off (approx. 1" of ash). You will just have to wait 30mins-hour for it to settle to it's new settings.
Mine was at FR99 this morning trying to keep up with the cold (6 degrees outside), but it was only 1 degree off, Setpoint of 68, room was 67. But was maintaining. Anything Higher, it would just be wasting coal for me.
The stove may not be big enough to overcome the Coldness outside and the size of your house.
Sorry for all the questions, but a lot factors go into getting the heat out of the stove....more info the better we can understand your heating situation and each home is different.

YOU SAY DON'T TURN IT UP MUCH PAST ROOM TEMP I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO WATCH IT ALL DAY SHOULD IWNY wrote:Where your stove located in relation to the thermostat? How insulated in your house? Windows?

Without more info on your setup, We can't tell you why it's not working correctly. Maybe the stove isn't big enough for you house? Thermostat is too far away from the heat source....etc....Every home heating is unique, what works for one, may not work for someone else....
I don;t watch mine all day either, I check it in the morning and the evening. it maintains 68-70 most of the time.

Hello Steve, sorry you aren't having an easy time with the new stove and control. We encourage you to call us at 315-299-3589 to discuss your setup and to help you get things tuned. Without more info I'd say your MAX setting may be too low for your stove. But that is only one of many possible explanations and potential adjustments. If you'd like to continue diagnosing this here for the time being, that's fine, but we do need some more information to help you:
- How big is the house in Sq ft, including basement if you are heating it.
- Where is the stove located?
- Is the stove tied into a forced air furnace system? How is the furnace blower being controlled? Do you have the two blowers on the stove installed or are they removed? If not a furnace system, is the stove ducted in any way into the non-basement floors? Please describe the ducting and circulation setup.
- Enter the SETUP menu on the thermostat (press and hold MENU button for 2 seconds, until "S1200A" or some other time appears), select the MAX setting screen (tap MENU button until it appears). Leave the thermostat on this screen for 30 minutes. Look at the fire on the grate, how many inches of ash are there on the end of the grate?

I WANT TO THANK YOU GUY'S FOR THE HELP I THINK I HAVE IT SET RIGHT NOW HOUSE IS HOLDING AT 76 DEGREES THANK YOU STEVEpvolcko wrote:Nothing I listed there would fix the problem, only help diagnose it. Please call us at 315-299-3589 to help you with this.
I have a "Coal-trol TS2" I also have a standard thermostat for my gas furnace. The thermostats are just on opposite sides of the wall. My gas furnace thermostat shows a temp of 85 degrees, while the coal trol shows a temp of 95 degrees. Why the variance?

10 degrees of difference is quite a bit. Are both walls interior walls? Any vents discharging onto one but not the other?
Please try using the temperature adjustment/bias setting to adjust the temperature readout of the coal-trol thermostat: Coal-Trol V3 Firmware Features
If that doesn't work, we can arrange to get your coal-trol thermostat in for warranty repair. Every once in a while the thermistor on a thermostat will be bad or poorly soldered and result in out of whack temperate readings. Yours maybe reading just a little bit too high to be adjusted down all the way.

Depends on the location, air flow, etc...taht;s a big difference and WOW, you keep it pretty warm.
My 2 thermostats (gas and Coal) were mounted right on top of each other and had a 3-5 degree temp difference.
Once I noted this to the Coaltrol guys, they told me how to adjust my Coaltrol (per the Thread Link above) and they are exactly the same Temp. now.
