Hand Fed Coal Stove: Estate Heatrola, Jotul 507

Post by PC 12-47E » Fri. Dec. 05, 2008 2:18 pm

Thanks to all who put lots of time and great info in this Coal Forum.
I have a new Harman SF-250 that I installed in early fall. I started the stove in mid November and the stove has not gone out (yet). Burning Kimmel's Nut... I have heated with Two Jotul 507's for eight winters in the past.
The stove is connected to a masonry center chimney 8"X8" tile lined flue. The chimney inlet is only 5" higher than the stoves outlet...
Field Controls recommended locations for the baro damper, on oil or Solid Fuel Systems, show two horizontal setups.
Harmons installation Manual reads 'install barometric damper only in a vertical section of vent pipe.
What do you think?
Thank you, R.S.

It will work either way, Horz. or Vertical, doesn't really matter, as long as you set the weight on the correct side and calibrate it with a draft gauge (Manometer). Refer to Field Controls installation manual and/or website. Some have even put them in TEE used as an elbow (not recommended, but does work) if space is tight.
