What are the pros and cons to corner placement vs straight along center of wall?

I don't think there are any pros and cons.. it is more what works for your room, where the chimney is, and where the stove will not be in the way and it is easy to bring coal to the stove, and to take ashes outside.

Corner placement would require about twice the size heat shield as a straight wall placement. If the walls are noncombustible then this wouldn't matter and you may not need much wall protection anyway depending on the unit you plan to use.

If this is a space heater (not boiler/forced air) then a central location would be best for even heat distribution.

It sure depends on the room layout and if the hearth is raised.

If you raise the hearth make sure you do not create a trip hazard.

Actually with my stove type--The stove corner measurements are LESS inches from the combustibles than the straight installation. Corner is 12'' vs 18'' straight on.

On the back of mine it says 20" from the corners if catty corner, or 18" from the back if straight.
