Heating an Empty Water Coil

Hot Air Coal Stoker Furnace: Alaska 140 Dual Feed

I'll be installing an Alaska 140 this weekend. I has a water coil installed. Can I safely light this thing up before plumbing the water?

I was told running the coil empty would damage it....
