Is there an easy way to shut down the stove using the Coal-trol ? I had once put the MIN to 2, and the stove went out after a while. I was experimenting to see how low I could get the flame. This time, I thought if I put it at MIN 1, the stove surely would go out. 20 minutes later, I looked at the stove, and it was cranking a huge fire. So...any thoughts on this ? Thanks.

If you had min set to 1 and a big fire then I'd have to say that the tstat was calling for heat.

I use the red switch on the control box to shut the stove off.

No way it was calling for heat. House was 80*, thermo was set to 73*. That is how I shut it off,(red button) but I was trying to get it to go out without doing that, so the DV would continue to work until the fire was out.

Correct me if I'm wrong but........

Shouldn't the DV be wired independent of the Coal Trol ???? Or at least superceding the Coal Trol ???

That way if there's a problem with the DV it shuts down the stove.

I have always just turned off the control box, the fire will go out pretty quick, even if you have a DV/PV, there is no combustion fan so the flames will go out rather quickly.

The DV/PV should have a Flume switch, if the output is block or failed and the stove continues to burn, it will either turn the stove off or the stoker off as to stop feeding.

here's a thought... did you set the low limit and then push the menu button once more? That would have put you on the max setting which if left there will take the stove to the max feed. I did this today and came home to a 82 degree house!

As I said, I did this same thing yesterday. I knew what happens when you leave the menu on the min or max item, yet I walked out the door with the menu on max. It doesn't reset itself, which I think could be a liability for the CA folks. I came home, stove at 600 degrees and cranking with no convection fan running. I was gone for about 2.5 hours. Had I been gone longer I don't know what would/could have happened. There is no high temp limit on the stove and I doubt my room would have ever hit the 95 degree tstat high limit.

CA guys...would it not make sense to have the tstat reset away from the max after say, 30 minutes in case someone else does this?

I was thinking that maybe at least make the convection fans come on when t-stat set to max. Would make for a hot house but a lot cooler stove

First, these stoves should be safe even if run at max fire for an extended period. Part of their certification is that they can withstand full burns structurally. And proper installation includes clearances and materials that will remain safe during such a burn too.

Older software did not run the convection fan specifically when in the MAX setting. This was fixed in the later V2 versions and in the current V3 firmware. It may take up to 30 minutes for it get up to speed.

Paul, when I left mine on max on Sunday I was gone for over 3 hours. The stove was at 600 indicated on the magnetic thermo and the fans were not turning. Any thoughts on that?

That strikes me as odd. What version does your thermostat report as? What is your MAX setting?

Can I get the ver without powering it off/on?
