Well I took cArNaGe advice and rented a scaffold; couldn't have done it with out it. And I'm going to use Freddy's quote "I can now say I've built two chimneys in my life....first and last!!"; never again. My youngest son helped me on Friday and my other son stopped by this morning and helped me finish; their help cut the time in half.

Oh, and man do I hate heights  but once I was up there I got used to it.

Thank you all for answering my questions; they helped me greatly.

Seeing your pictures brings back memories of when my dad and I built the same type chimney back in 1980. My dad has now passed on but my mom is still using it.
It will last you a long time.

Yeah David, scaffolding is the only way to go. I was going to do it off a ladder until I picked up the first block. Borrowed scaffolding and a wheel block. I couldn't have finished without it.

Nice job. I'm also in the I don't like heights club. Problem is I have to climb on roofs for a living. It's the only way to find little gems like this.

WHAT, ?? Terry, that is the new attic vent/self cooling chimney pipe installation recommended in all the Handyman magazines !!! :D You see the rain cap on the pipe provides rain protection for the roof and attic, and the open corners allows free and easy access for the red squirrels..

Gotta love it..

David, the finished chimney looks great,, I bet you are glad that job is done,, enjoy that well earned sense of accomplishment !!
