It will depend on the brand of stove and how far the stoker moves.
If brand X stoves stoker carpet moves back and forth 3 inches it will require a different setting than a brand Y stove whos stoker carpet moves back and forth 1 inch. Just set yours to keep the grate full of red hot coals all but the last inch when set at the max setting. My max setting is 38.

It all depends on the stove. Check the owners manual, it has recommended setting for different Mfr's stoves. Each one has it own way of feeding and the max on your stove can be way different then other ones.
I can go about 48 on my Hyfire, otherwise it starts pushing hot coals off the grate.

The LL Pioneer I have has been running about a week and a half. Been slowly raising max, up to 50 now and at 100% FR still has almost 4" of ash till end of grate.

Thanks for the input. I have a pioneer LL and it is set at min5 and max48, when calling for heat I still have 3 inches of ash at the end but it is not really cold here yet, I guess the best time to set the max would be when it gets real cold and the stove is cranking hard for heat.

Yes, as long you don't have hot coal falling off, you should be okay for now, you may be able to bump it up 1-2 at a time once it gets cold and it is cranking.

I have mine at 60. When it gets cold enough that the stove is calling for 99% feed rate, keep turning up max until you have a full grate, but no hot coals fall off the end.
