Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone knows if a 1400va smart ups can handle two marine batteries or will I have to program the unit to think it has more battery packs. I guess I could always try it but before I start cutting battery cables from the UPS I wanted to try this post. Thanks in advance.

Why would it matter? as long as you have them hooked up properly (Series or parallel) to match the voltage charge of the UPS. It should charge them. Maybe I am wrong, I never tried yet (Yet, I have a UPS with 2 small batteries) I may update them to larger ones.

I read that someone had a problem after they changed the stock batteries to car batteries. However, it wasn't the same model as I have have but close. The unit has a microchip and even though you have two larger batteries the alloted time may be synced with the smaller batteries. I may have to test it out to see.

Car batteries discharge quickly, they have high rush current and then discharge quite fast, the deep cycle marine or golf cart batteries run much longer and can stand being charged/discharged more.
