You can remove the boiler from the base, take the auger off, etc. The idea is to break it down into manageable pieces.

I'm not opposed to raw manhandling it up the stairs, but I'm pretty much working alone, just moved here from out of state and don't know anyone I can call for help.
At this point I'm looking at having a moving company do it for me.

One Appliance Cart, 3 college kids and myself manhandled the stripped down Harman mag stoker down the outside steps into the basement this evening. Got it back together tonight and I now have the flue pipe connected. I'll wait until tomorrow morning to light it up so the furnace cement on the pipe seams and grate edges has a chance to set up over night. One pic tonight....

The people you want are the riggers who move heavy machine tools. Just ask any machinery dealer for names.

I unloaded the 1400 lb. boiller with the loadall,then my brother and I removed everything posible inculuding the controls on the sides,slid it under the deck(walk out basement)removed the basement door,witch only had 1/4 " on each side.Then had to tear out second door frame,used a comelong and 4x4 rolled up 2 steps on scaffold planks with pipes then down 2 steps onto basement floor,rolled to the other side of basement on pipes reinstalled everthing back on the boiler.It took 6 hrs. nothing broken and nobody hurt.

my stove wasn't hard to get in ... my boiler into the basement was in getting it down the stairs (put a 2x4 across the threshold and winched it down .. I love my winch,,,pulls tree stumps out etc...how people live w.o. one puzzles me).

For stove, just used handtruck. Only 1 step though ... getting it off the ground??--used hydraulic jack & 2x4s incrementally...slowly taking my time

Oh, and I winched my old boiler out (handtruck & winch) .. old one seemed to be 800 lbs ... a bear to get it up.

echos67 it sure is. they are tuff old machines. I guess I shouldn't have said by myself I should have said with help from a couple deere!

Found this topic and I figured I would share my story. I bought a used Burnham hand fired boiler from someone on Craig's List, the seller said he thought it weighed 600-700 lbs. I took a friend of mine with me to pick the boiler up and the seller helped us load it. We strapped it to some hand trucks and tried to give it a shove to get it back on its wheels. The 3 of us could not get it pivoted on to the wheels to roll it up the ramp of the trailer. so we took my large ratchet straps, rated at 2,000 lb hooked it to the bottom of the hand trucks and to the front of the utility trailer. We slowly ratcheted it up the ramp. onec we got it onto the deck of the trailer we "walked" it into the center of the trailer. and strapped her down.

When we got to my house I backed the trailer up to my basement door that covers the steps and lowered the ramp/gate. we "walked" the boiler to the back of the trailer up to the edge of the ramp and reattached the ratchet strap. We lowered the boiler, still strapped to the hand truck down the ramp and up to the edge of the first step. This is where it got scary. With the help of my father-in-law and my friend we slowly lowered the boiler one "click" at a time untill we lowered it down I think 8 steps. by the time the boiler was sitting flat on the basement floor my arms where killing me from operating the ratchet strap. later, once I got a copy of the owners/operators manual for my boiler I found out it weighs 980lbs. No wonder it took forever to unload it.

now just to get it burning some black gold and ill be good to go.

This took many moves. My truck was to high to unload it at the house, my error with the scaffold setup. We had to unload it at my neighbors house with his boat lift. Now we have it on a boat trailer, no solid floor and move it to the garage. The scaffold works now. What you can't see is my truck as the anchor in the garage and a chain fall lowering the 900 lbs KA-6.

The area way for the basement is inside my garage, so we backed int he trailer, hoisted it off with a comealong, set it on a had truck, wheeled it to the area way, and lowered it into the basement with a hoist. Beats the daylights out of the stairs..
