carnage , thats a pretty impressive wall. Must took long time to construct. My house was built in 1862. Orignial homestead , with at the time was 113 acres. It's one of the biggest houses around here. The north wall is 60' long and 7' high , 18" thick. Just looking at that wall , makes my back hurt. Some of the rocks are huge. They all sit on a footer 24" wide X 12" deep of rocks , all round and the size of grapefruit. I would hate to figure the weight of the entire foundation. :D Mine needs retuck pointed from about 3' down in some spots. The basement itself is pretty dry.

I only get water in two spots. One is the corner of the picture I posted. I fixed that by digging a diversion ditch. The other side of the house has a spot too, but I just had that regraded this summer. Put a stop to that. But the grass isn't growing there to good.

As bad and as big as the holes are in my foundation, we don't get water in the basement.
We actually have a stream running underneath our house, and there is a hole in the bottom of the wall about 12" wide where you can see it.
When we get really bad rains around here the water must go elsewhere, because then no water runs under the house.
I will have to get a picture and post it up tomorrow.

How very strange that the stream doesn't flow during heavy rain. The exact opposite happens here.

The cellar is dry, no water anywhere. I's been dry out for so long that the water table is low, we would have to have a lot of rain for a long time to get the water flowing.

It only happens about once a year or less.

I can't find the thread from last spring when the really big pump was across the road pumping out the pond, so here's some pics.

You can almost see my house through the trees in the middle of the photo.

POND 2.JPG

Across the road from my house. It's a low lying area with nowhere for the water to go. This is the actual water table (supposed to be underground). The water wants to be at the same level in my cellar. After extended dry weather this pond will disappear completely.

I remember that. That still is the biggest water pump I've ever seen in my life!

Good thing your house wasn't built across the street! Imagine that scenario?

Here's what I have for beams -- 150 yr old trees.....

Woke up to over 8" of water in the deepest section!! THOUGHT THIS COULDN'T HAPPEN, but a rock wall collapsed over my sump drain plugging it up solid. We then got 5.65 INCHES OF RAIN!!

I hear that! :)

I built a small culvert around the pipe out of stone after I unplugged the pipe.

The cellar was completely empty in 3 minutes! :o 8-)
