There are two screws that hold it in place. Three holes need to be drilled. One 1/2" hole and two 1/8" holes. We recommend use of a drill press and/or center punch and also drilling a 1/8" pilot hole for the 1/2" hole.

I don't have an electronic version of the template handy. When the website is updated with this info I'll post an announcement here.

What about enclose the lead wires in a very small tube (1/8th inch tubing maybe, steel of course, depending on the size of the leads) that is long enough to reach to the back side of the grate but not so long as to foul the stoker. A slight uphill bend would also help. Hold in place with a self tapping screw in one of the existing grate holes near the back of the grate (a small tab would help). This will allow you to run the wires up though the bottom of the hopper then drill through the side of the hopper and make your connection; a rubber grommet would protect the wires from chafing on the holes edges. I would rather drill my hopper than drill my grate. A hole in the hopper would be much easier to drill and if I make a mistake won't destroy my grate. This would also make it easier to replace if there is a need for replacement. This kind of setup would pose minimum risk to the grates and would not impact the flow of coal onto the grates.

If you use a center drill to put pilot holes in you should have no wander issues. Most better hardware stores carry these drills. Or if you know a mahcinest they may be able to help you out.

Welding cast especially when welding it to steel is best left to a skilled welder.

The best thing would be to have the Stove Companies make replacment grate with it installed already they could send
it out already installed on the grate for those that would like to update there stoves the Co could offer somekind of credit back for sending the old grate back to the stove Co. So they could use that for the next guy or have the customer send his or her grate back to the Stove Co. for a update install .
