Went to feed the coal stove this morning and the damper was wide open. figured it was time to vacuum the ash out of the stove and the pipe so i set the coal trol for 50 degrees and cleaned the stove then i went outside and cleaned and lubed the powervent. i stick the vacuum cleaner hose in the hole for some draft while i clean the blades from the powervent. put it back together and the damper was still wide open. some chunks of rust came off and the damper door got too light to stay closed.
replaced it with a used baro that i had here. all is well
hopefully this week the efm 350 will be up and running and i dont have to deal with the powervent anymore.
Baro damper went bad

Sometimes gotta smack the baro flapper to get rust, ash, whatever off it. It tends to build up over time.
Another good reason to install a permanent barometer, to notice any changes in draft over time.
Glad you caught it

I think it is more likely you have ash build up on the top half of the flap.
A monthly brushing keeps things clean for me. Baro is 10 years old and still works good.

One thing that made mine last longer is I installed a t and an elbow then put my baro in that.
It offsets it from the chimney pipe and keeps it much cleaner, it still functions correctly and only gets a little sooty when I get an occasional puff back, which is my fault for loading infrequently and too aggressively.

cleaned off the buildup and it still would not close at all unless the powervent was shut off. i forgot to remove it last summer and it got rusty.
