Trying to convert a grain auger for rice coal. I've seen other post but I'd like to know your thoughts. It clogged on me during my first attempt to use it.
1hp 1800 RPM motor. 2.5" drive pulley, 10. " Driven pulley.
I just ordered a 1.6" drive pulley, and I'm going to swap auger drive to a 12"
My concern is the bottom. Please see the pic. Am I letting to much coal in? Or is the pulley sizes.
Thanks in advance,
Frank.

I think you're taking way too big of bite?

Should I cut that by half?

I agree. I dont think you would need more than 2 flutes visible. As long as the coal is feeding fast enough to fill each flute you should be good. once the auger is primed filling more than one flute at a time seems pointless.

Yes that’s the problem. And be ready for a dust storm unless the coal is wet

I use oil soaked hopefully that helps. I think that fixed the problem.

Closing it down was the trick. I didn't even have to change the gearing.
Thanks all! You guys are a life saver.

Next thought is to use the other auger to pull the Ash out. Anyone on here done that? Curious if that would mess up the draft?

I thought about that one a lot with mine but I was worried about losing vacuum in the burn chamber. Maybe if the auger was full of ash it would seal it up? My LL was very finicky when it came to maintaining negative pressure in fire chamber.

I talked with Matt from liesureline yesterday. He knows of a few guys that have done it with the AA220. I'm going to give it a try. Worst case is it doesn't work and I just have to patch a hole.

How do you clear the pan if you get a jam? Maybe consider opening the top of the pan where the auger feeds thru. That way if the auger jams you can just drop the pan without messing with the auger?
**NVM i see how the pan is connected. Looks good. Are you planning on manually turning auger on or will you have it timed?
