I am gathering new bits of pipe and fittings to redo my flue on my KA2. It is getting a bit raggy. So I have a question. I have a new in the box barometric Draft Control and the instructions show it being attached to a straight section of pipe by cutting a oval hole, pattern is included, and bending the tabs around the perimeter back.
Will this provide a good enough connection?
Thanks!

Yes, you cut it 1/2" inside and cut in 1/2"tabs to bend over. Works great. I used a cordless jigsaw last time and it was very easy.

1. Bolt the frame on the pipe.
2. Draw line around inside of frame.
3. Remove frame and draw line 1/2" to 3/4" inside existing line.
4. Cut inside line, slice tabs (don't go all the way to line, leave a little so it bends up inside). Prebend tabs slightly. Mount frame, bend tabs with small gas pliers.

The two sides are squared off so it looks like a birds mouth shape...

You mention "gas pliers"?

Sorry, it's an old school name for these types of pliers... Has angled jaws to help get in there. I also use the back to push the tabs.

If you have tin snips, they can be used to cut the tabs and would be easier than the jigsaw for the tabs...

Got both. I also have a "nibber"? It is like a power tin snips. Cuts a kerf about 1/8" wide. But I think the jig saw would be best to cut it the "oval".

I used a cut off wheel in a grinder on my first one... It worked, but a good metal blade in a jigsaw was so much easier!!!
