No primer required...just get yourself some "Stove Bright" paint in a "rattle can" and go to town on it!
It gets "cured" when you light your first fire.
I get two day delivery online and can pick my favorite color from https://www.northlineexpress.com/high-temp-paint.html
The optional plastic spray gun that connects to the spray can is a nice feature, and saves your finger some.

Any kind of "Stove Polish" C. Sand a tad--rub in & buff--might need a couple coats.

I like the stove bright paints also and they have different colors (i like the brown) I "think" that is what Hitzer uses on new stoves. Follow their curing instructions and its tough as nails. The polish will work too, and is likely cheaper. Same with other paints. Black is black no matter the source. Its your choice.
