Installing manometer and barometric

Ok new to coal. Install a 50 93 Hitzer. Want to be efficient as possible. I pick up a manometer to install. Today's project. But have questions on a barometric set up. I have read that I should have the stove burning to set one up. With the stove burning should i have the stove damper open or closed? And wouldn't that effect the amount of draft that the chimney is drawing? And what about the weather conditions. Will the temp and wind change my settings? It is supposed to be calm but only in the 50s today. Thanks in advance

Den good reed thanks didn't see that. I did install the manometer today. And it is still to warm to fire it up. I don't have a barometric damper yet. I put the steel line in the stove pipe. With no fire I am get a reading of .02 does this sound rite ? Thinking my draft may be a little on the low side.

You do NOT need a baro with this stove.

The heated exhaust going up the chimney will increase the draft..

Like Fred said, you shouldn't need a baro for that stove if the bi-metallic thermostat is functioning properly.

That is what I was thinking. Got up this morning to 34 degree. And 62 in the house. So I am in the process of lighting it now. With a small bag of charcoal and ash door open it jumped up to .10 then started putting nut size on. And it staying around .06 so that put me in the high side of what hitzer wants in the manual. Will see where she is at when I get it full and cut it back. Thanks guys for the replys. And you all just confirmed what I was thinking.

As I added coal with the ash door open . The draft would rise every time. From .06 up to .10 The more coal I added the higher the gauge would rise. When I got the bed and hopper full I was back up to .10 closed the ash door and it is going back down and staying around .07 . I know it may go lower or back up when I get the draft setting on the stove set where the house is at the temp we like. I believe I am going to love this coal thing. Other than the time it takes to light it. And the gauge is now ther so I can keep a eye on it. Again thanks for the replys

When the ash door is open more heated air mass is allowed up the chimney which in turn increases the draft pressure. Yeah coal is awesome stuff

you'll get better at lighting it. Most times you can run a fire for months at a time. Some people only light it once for the season. I've had two such years of the "One Match Club" membership.

top rgt. corner--SEARCH box--type in mano install& I'd bet ya come up with a tad bit of info!! LOL
