I am just curious how much coal people burn in a day. I use about 20# when it is 55 out up to 90# when it is in the single digits. I have a 1500 sq foot house that has single pane windows and poor insulation. I keep my house about 68 degrees.

I use about 40# on a warm 50 degree day and approx 70# on a single-digit day. My house is 4000 sq. ft - two story. The coal is the only source of heat with the exception of one remote bedroom.blue83camaro wrote:I am just curious how much coal people burn in a day.

I have a Harman Mark I in a poorly insulated 1800 s.f. house. I go thru a 50# bag in 24hrs. When it's warmer out, I use a little less, but not too much less. I keep the damper about 3/4 turns out.
You guys with stokers are blessed. You can back off/trim down your stoves thereby reducing your coal consumption. With a regular stove trimmed back, I still go thru about 40 lbs a day. That gives me an additional push to look for a stoker stove for next year. I am looking at Keystoker. Is that a good choice? With all the problems that John has had with his Harmon, are there any Keystoker users out there with any issues?
Well I have a Harman magnum ..this is second year with it...it is a quality stove....built like a tank..and works great...I just think their burn control can be tweaked a little better....working on that now...all in all it is a fine unit...
I also have a Alaska Stoker...which is a fine unit also..it is very close to the Keystoker...very close..they look alike so close....it a variable burn system on it..very easy to set burn rate..with a knob...plus Alaska offers more models...I have a Kast Console....and it heats....and very conservative on coal use....
but all in all both stoves are great....best investment made....I heat solely with coal..no other ...and I use 5 tons max for winter...for 1800 SF.
The Alaska is used when we get very cold weather....I fire that up to take the heavy load off the harman...
Good Luck

Thanks Al. My intention is to put the stoker in the basement and get a duct ran to my furnace and heat the house that way and if it get real cold, I'll fire up the Hitzer on the main floor of my 1800 SF Cape Cod to help the stoker along when it gets real cold. Alaska stoves are also appealing...been looking at those as well. My dealer that I got my Hitzer from also deals with Keystoker so thats why I have looked at Keystoker first.
