No problem thank you. I found this piece at work today in the drop room prob was a test bend. I don't think I need 1/4 inch thick but might work to go over the top and leave a space down both sides? I will wait to see what you come up with before I decide there is still plenty to do on this pile.

Just remember that the PTO on the tractors in most cases is 540 rpm and that is what these augers were designed to run at or at much slower speed with gear reduction using roller chain and sprockets.

If you have a motor that runs at 1725 RPM you will have to use much larger pulleys or sprockets on the motor and on the auger to slow the auger.

If you visit the www.engineeringtoolbox.com you will find charts for belt drives and chain drives and you can also find them at www.USMOTOR.com.

I should be a right about 400 rpm with the pulleys if that's to much I will have to gear down motor or bigger pulley on auger I guess

Have seen others here who used large notches in continuos cover with external lever to adjust every notch to rotate wide to narrow and back for the entire length...metered control for no jams due to auger being totally buried...

It looks a lot like my salt spreader that I talked about before. As my spreader is an 8 FT. long I am going to use a 6 inch X 10 foot auger with a galvanized tube. As Larry said I am going to cut 2 inch X 6 inch slots in the tube from one end to the other. I will use a lever on the outside to open and close it. I will start the auger before I open the tube and I will close it before I stop the auger so all the coal will be out of the tube when I start it the next time. As I have to work outside I am waiting for warm weather.

I like the idea of bring able to close off the auger entirely but with my application the bin will by outside the shop in a lean to and honestly I don't want to have to walk all the way around and open the thing everytime. Yes I'm lazy

Got a bit more done, the motor mounts done. Tested fitted the pulleys Auger shaft and bearings, still need to trim the extra shaft off and cut a keyway in the pulley end. Started putting angle iron around the top of the tub

Thanks trying to get it done before people start calling about wanting everything they broke last summer and fall that they need fixed yesterday. That really slows down progress on any of my stuff.

Had the day off today so spent morning workin in my creation. Put new crossmemyers under it, old one looked like it was dragged around with no tires. Also installed auger "baffle" took measurements from farm down the roads unit hope it works. Also finished putting angle iron around the top and adding 8 inch extensions to the top and luckily it still fits out my tiny garage doors. She's pretty much done exept for paint so guess i have to choose a color, and I can't wait to climb in.and out of this thing for the last time.

Hope she doesn't jam on you, could you add a big hex nut/drive on auger end opposite of motor end to slip a big cheater bar over to rock auger back and forth to un-jam? My concern is not having an adjustable gate/cover to control amount of auger exposed...IDK, maybe you're lucky and the way you covered it never becomes an issue. ;)
