Looking to upgrade my portable coal chute and had an idea. Is it possible to take 6" pvc pipe and heat it to form a kind of "rectangular" shape? The cut out in my house is of a size that the round will not fit through unless I start cutting away cement block.
Thoughts?

I never thought of that but is an excellent idea. I could put like a 10 or 12" piece going through then grout around it. Buy a cap and you have a very easy perfect seal! Could even install it on an angle.

Coal doesn't like plastic. It likes metal and a flat bottom. Find a kids slide, the coal will enjoy that.

I have a 4" PVC pipe delivering rice coal down from my bin outside thru the foundation wall to my stoker in my basement. The pitch is pretty good about 45 Deg id say. I tested the pitch before finalizing the installation. Coal runs fine wet or dry. Fills my hopper automatically, runs so slow there is no coal dust. A real work saver.

I have the exact same thing. Mine does double duty. When its not loading coal I have a perforated cap on mine that provides combustion air into my boiler room.k-2 wrote: ↑Thu. Been feeding my K2 boiler for 15 yrs thru a 4" PVC pipe. Only time i ever had a problem was wet coal freezing up and had to break up the clumps to get it to run thru the pipe. Very unusual as i usually get a winters supply in the fall and hardly ever get winter time deliveries. Been keeping an extra ton in the bin for possible unseasonal brutal cold spells to avoid wintertime deliveries.
