Thanks to a few of you fellow who have helped me out with some PM's. I am starting to gather the necessary bits and pieces to put my Coalvac system together.
I already have a Dust Deputy attached to a 3 hp vac that I use for clean up so just need to get a bigger vac.
Found some 4" PVC under my barn do just need a few fittings. Rummaged around and found a bunch of 2" fittings and a short length of pipe so Home Depot here I come.
A few details I am still trying to work out. The "flapper" where the 4" PVC empties into the hopper. Also I am thinking of enclosing the hopper so that when the rice coal dumps into it any dust will be contained.
The other item is my pick up point. I store my coal in 5 bins in my basement that I moved about with a pallet jack. Each has a sliding door to access the coal. My thought is to just use a length of vac hose attached to the 2" PVC as a "flexible" pick up?
Some any ideas or thoughts would be great!
Oh, the" elevated bin" will be constructed out of 3/4" play with the sloping bottom.

I was lazy and used a piece of cardboard on the outlet of the vacuum bin. You can pull it off and the cut power to the suction and coal will drop. After hopper empties I will turn vac on for a few seconds and that will suck up a bunch of dust.
Flex hose would probably work, I would prefer smooth wall. Too much friction for corrugated IMO

Hope you post some pics, I want to build a vac transfer also and like to see the different ways people come up with to do it! I made one years ago to move corn and worked very well but not sure how different buck will transfer.

I just started using straight buck this year and it seems to work just as well as when I used a rice/buck mix. I do use a new 6.5 HP shop vac that has a high CFM rating

How do you guys think this would work instead of using a shop vac? I only question because I have read (and done myself) used multiple shop vacs hooked in series for more power. This coupled to a 4" dust deputy then reduced down to 2 1/2" by the numbers would seem to be a beast?

I would be hesitant with it being only 2 HP which probably works great for saw dust and other light weight material. I'm not sure it would have the power to lift and pull coal though... Just my unedumacated opinion..

I was thinking about doing the same thing. At 4" is would be a no go,but reduced to 2" I think it would work. Probably do some math to see if it will give you enough cfm to move your product.

Has a claimed CFM of 1550 where as the shop vacs are around 150 with a 6.5hp motor?

As a woodworker I have a Dust collection system with a 4' tall cyclone in my shop. My main run is 6or8,", it is in the attic an it has been a while since I have been up there, and it transitions to 4" at the tools. Not sure what would happen if you reduce it down to 2".

You will need a balance of CFM and lift. IDK how the dust collector will do under load like a vacuum. The shop vac has something like 70wc. I don't recall what the dust collector will produce.
