In my constant quest to make the moving and handling of rice coal easier I've made a new tailgate for my dump trailer. I have a 4" grain auger that will connect to the feed to my basement bin. I'll back the trailer over the auger hopper and with a little assist from a leaf blower shoot the coal through into the bin. I'm not worried about dust as the coal will be wet. I'll post some video when I'm loading the bin.

Nice! That should make getting the coal into your basement bin a lot easier.

I'm hoping to get my coal this Friday. I need a few days in a row without rain. With the monsoon rains we've had this year the ground is very soft. If the current weather holds this Friday should work. Get some new popcorn!

So it poured rain Thursday night. Not going to be able to get coal this weekend. I have to drive around my house on the grass to get to my bin. Ground is too soft now. I’ve never seen a year like this. Rain, rain and more rain. If this weather pattern keeps up we are going to get a lot of snow this winter.

Ground is too soft here too. I need to get my coal off the trailer and my winter bin set up.

I have to start thinking of doing this differently. I'm going to install a gate in the steel tailgate. Where'd you find your auger? That's my next move too. Saw a really trick chain and plate "auger" at a brewery last weekend. Mignt not be as likely to bind and break.

This is what I have. I used it for years to move coal from my bin to the Harman hopper before I bought the EFM. Mine is a 4".

If I were starting from scratch I think I'd consider a flexible auger.

If a 4" auger moves rice and buck, what size is required for pea?

It depends on how much and how fast you want to move it. The Van Wert 2.5" auger feeds properly sized Pea coal just fine. But that auger needs to spin faster to feed at the same rate as Rice coal.

H.B.'s auger has a speed reducing gear motor. It is 6" so it can feed a lot of coal at slow speed. The slow speed reduces breaking the coal into smaller pieces.

CoalKirk's 4" auger spins fast and is probably measured in tons per hour. You could put Pea coal through it, it would just take longer to move the coal.

Mine moves a pound every 10 seconds, or 6 pounds a minute.
