Starlings like to come down my chimneys but so far no nests and I hope it stays that way. Its always good to check.

Had mine cleaned about a month ago but I probably should pull the cleanout and take a look up in the fall before I fire up. Also a good time to test the CO detectors.

I've had 2 starlings come down the chimney so far this year. Took a look up the pipe, man almost looks brand new. They really know how to clean a chimney. I can always tell ones been in the pipe by ash around the barometric damper. They both made it when I was able to grab them as they tried to get out of the damper. Others the last couple years have not been so fortunate.

Same here, never had a nest but a few dead ones & I that I heard so got out by hand, seems they come down but have a hard time going up. Always good advice FF, no problem with my stoker & DV. The garage I almost exclusively burn wood so run a brush yearly just to stay safe.

I have a chimney cap on all year, but i clean the chimney right after the burn season ends, again around July 4th, again at mid October, but the most important is the "January" thaw, when it gets into the 50 degree range.

Wellllll....I haven't even emptied the Harman yet, still full of ash from last season. I want to paint it before light up time comes, so I will just wheel it outside and empty it then-less ash flying around in the house. I'll check the flue with a mirror and a flashlight stuck inside the cleanout at the bottom. Few years ago I didn't have a cap on the chimney, got some bats in the stove during the summer.
