Hello all, I'm new to not only this site but to coal burning as well. If anyone could chime in with some opinions I would appreciate it. I've got an Alaska stove kast console II hearth model.I'm going to install a class a stainless liner, now here's a question, everything I've read states that a barometric damper is recommended, although I only have about 12" to the center of firebox to reach flue to go up chimney and on the back of my stove the outlet for connection is offset. would I have to use maybe a 45 connection from a baro tee then connect to liner? Can 45's or any other transitions be used? Also, all of the baro damper's that I've found are black pipe. Stainless liner insulated then black pipe tee where it is probably the hottest?

45 is okay
where it is the hottest is still okay

If you get stuck while trying to fit it all into that tight space, you might opt for a manual pipe damper (MPD) instead of that barometric damper to at least have some control.

I would consider manual damper if I could access it readily. The kast konsole II is a hearth model designed to fit on hearth in front of existing fireplace. No room to access damper to adjust unless stove is pulled back. Baro would be ok after initial setup. I know I'm gonna have to pull it back on occasion for cleaning and maint but not everyday lol.
