As mentioned by many people in this topic, no clay liner is needed. Definitely not a SS liner. $$$There's brick chimneys in my area 100 yrs old that show no sign of mortar deterioration. Go figure!! ;)

Hahahahaha you slay me! Price the install of a clay liner.

The average length of home ownership is 11-15 years. Itโ€™s a bargain.

At least they actually knew how to build chimneys in the old days.

So we donโ€™t really know itโ€™s โ€œok with his oil burner.โ€ He was using it with his oil boiler. We do know that. It MAY be fine but it should be looked at a little closer. Old mortar deteriorates and falls out. The NFPA would say it needs a liner. Iโ€™m not saying that. Just that if there are voids in the mortar they should be repointed. Assuming an old brick chimney is ok without inspecting it is not a good idea. Just sayin.

You must be mistaken Coalkirk, everyone knows that masonry chimneys last forever, require no maintenance and can even withstand a nuclear blast!

No ya didn't, but being ya did--:) S said he was up top & checked out the chimney & I'm guessing if he was smart enough to do that, he would of also checked out the brick.
