What on earth would possess someone to take out coal and put in pellets? That would be almost like trading my Peterbilt on a Freightliner...

Hahaha I’m glad I gave a good laugh with my misspelling of chute.
I am located in Allentown, Pa.
I do think it might be risky because if anything happens to my pellets out there it would suck.

Do you like money? Would you be interested in seeing how much money you could save burning coal? For starters wood pellets only have 2/3's the heat value of coal by weight. You living where you do, you could probably get coal for $160-$175 per ton maybe less, maybe more. You'd have to look into it.
So if you pay $250 ton for pellets you could likely cut your heat bill in half.

This weekend there was an ad in the FB Market Place for free coal. Looked like a mix of stove and nut size. It was in a bin in someone's basement. The guy said there was about as much as could fit in a standard size pickup truck. I think I was fourth on the list of people interested when I contacted him.

What Lightning said !
We have lots of former pellet stove users here. Ask them why they switched and you'll find out why coal was a better choice for them. It might show that it works better for you than pellets.
And, already having coal and a place that is set up to store it in bulk, your way ahead on the savings game. If it were me I'd sell the pellet stove and put that money toward getting a good coal stove.
Plus, we can show you how to not be frightening the neighbors with alot of "shooting."
