Hello everybody,
long ago on this forum, but still burning coal, I have a draft underpressure goage ,, I hope you understand me.
I have measured cold, medium hot and hot,
See the pictures.
My chimney is dubblewalled steenles steel and 275 inch high and 30 inch above the hood of my house,, so ithink this is ok.
I have no dampers in my chimney, my stove is 100% burning antraciet with hopper and the problem is whem i thurn the airdraft close for the night its stil burning red,,,, (no flames)
For my stove saey 92 wood and coal: it needs the best draft between 12 PA and 20 PA min 8 pa and max 20 pa.
So my chimney (cold) is about: 2 pa ????
(Medium hot) about 5 min wood burn: 10 PA
And 10 min on: 15 PA
When the stove is hot it is: 30/ thil 35 PA
Is this normal? Cold 2 PA hot its 35 ???
Thanx i hope you understand me a little
On my picture its 0,1 MBAR = 10 PA

If you haven't lately, I would first check chimney for any kind of blockage--mirror & flashlight. I don't have a clue what a "pa" is but I do know what some blockage in the chimney can do.

Hello Fred, thanx for comment,
Its not a blockage, the chimney is a new one,
PA its the draft pressure in the chimney but i think its: pascal.
Cold is my chimney draft to low
En medium hot its perfect
When its hot its very to high
So my coal birns to hard when al is close,

Fred if I'm understanding my research Paulus has a chimney that can suck a sheep though a straw. If 1 milibar = .4014 inches of water. I am drawing .04 inches of water in my flue as we speak.freetown fred wrote: ↑Sun. Hi Paulus, welcome. What type of air inlet does your stove have. If you have a bi=metal thermostat it may need adjustment.
Paulus you may need a pipe damper to slow the draft down. A m.p.d. (manual pipe damper), or an automated one, (barometric pipe damper).
regards,
Mike.

Here is a conversion chart for all to read:
https://www.aqua-calc.com/convert/pressure/millib ... h-of-water
...and one for pascal:

Sorry, the 0,1 mbar = 10 PA
Yes Mike thats treu,
I have a bi metal thermostat and it may al close and i heave the ropes new so no leaks,
Here in belgium dee want no dampers in the pipe or something els for safety of co,, bit i think i mist buy a automatic damper so i instal manual the 15 PA what my stove needs to.
What happens with my draft when its cold,,, is this normal ? Its so very low 2 Pa

If I'm understanding this right, you do not want a manual pipe damper? A barometric damper will automatically keep your draft at the right pressure.

That looks like a nice barometric damper!!! But you should not use a barometric damper when burning wood.
