I have 6 Kidde smoke alarms. Two of them (one basement, the other first floor) that are combination CO/smoke detectors. They're all AC with battery backup. They have a control wire to set off up to 16 other devices. When I ran that circuit I used 2 wire instead of three so I can't gang them together. What I'm thinking of doing is using the control wire of the CO alarm in the basement to control a relay to shut off the power to the EFM. The coal unit will be the most likely cause of CO in the house. If it happens when I'm away the oil unit I have in series should fire up when the boiler water gets cold enough. That'll keep the house warm until I come home. I want this relay to be a manual reset like a circuit breaker. This way power to the EFM won't keep cycling as the alarm shuts off and goes back on.

Does anyone know of a major supply house other than Grainger that I can get a catalog? Grainger is out for me because you need a business license to purchase from them. I still have to spec this out once I get to the wiring for my system install. I'm not sure of the output of the smoke alarm or the current requirements of the EFM yet. I'm still debating about keeping the controls basic or going with something like Honeywell's AQ2000 series with all the goodies. I have another month or so before I get that far. Thanks.

Best bet is to look online for a relay with the coil voltage to match the trip circuit you are designing and a contact rating capable of handling the boiler power supply.

Or if you like pick out what you want from Grainger and I can get it for you. I'm in Carbondale, I could meet you at Grainger in Dunmore the next time I go to pick up an order of my own. It can be ordered on line and held for customer pickup with no problem.
