Getting near time to fire up the Hitzer. Looking forward to burning some Lehigh coal this season !

But I forgot I need to make a new skirt for in front of my fireplace ... like to have about a 24" by 48" one.

I previously was using tiles cemented onto a sheet metal sheet that was glued on a piece of plywood and used a piece of cloth to protect my wood floor from scratches. But I dropped it last season and it all became FUBAR.

Any suggestions? I want to have it weigh less than 30 lbs for easy movement.

Hit me up with some suggestions or links to products.

And while I'm not the cheapest guy you'll find...I'm still pretty cheap.

For $2.24 per square ft. You can make it out of pennies. :)

I did the hearth in my man cave and plan to make one for under the stove to match.

More details Paulie! What is under the pennies and what glue? Can you step on it? I like that a lot. Would make a unique wall board too. Nickels or even those large dark Mexican coins would look neat too and they would be cheaper than US money

Mycore has been mentioned in another thread. If you can find where to buy it, it is by far the most effective as well as light.

Uhh...you said 24" X 48" in the original post. Isn't that something along the lines of....say....8 sq. ft? :?

Your right ! (thinking about dry walling I guess !)

That would be about $20 for the pennies ... I have the other material.

But labor it would take and need to collect all those pennies.

Tell the wife you'll give her compensation in kind, for every penny she lays down you'll give her the same for pay.

Don't do it what any sharp objects around though and be sure and take video for our amusement.

This was the best I could do to help You....... There's gotta be a skirt pattern in the above link that will work. I'd use maybe and Indura FR Material to satisfy the need.... Best Of Luck !

There used to be a pretty good business locally that made small hearth pads. IIRC they made a base from backer board for tile, glued a wood trim around the outside edge, and then filled with mortar and slate tile. Grout it all and viola, you're done.

See the images on Google by searching "Vermont tile hearth pad". Of course yours is larger but it's still doable whether using slate or any number of ceramic tiles from one of those big box stores. Inexpensive ones are usually somewhere around $.69/sq.Ft.

Your imagination is all that is necessary.

Look at that .. just a piece of sheet metal ..

Pathetic it is.

Awaiting new one to be dried, new one made today.

What do you think it is?

A penny mat? Ohhhhh, you'll have to wait.

On another note: Matt Trubinsky of the Chgo. Bears made a TD in his first 2 starts. Only 52 more consecutive games to beat Drew Brees' record of most games with a passing TD. He can do it!
